The Great British Countryside Community Comes out in Strength with a Record-Breaking Attendance at Blenheim Palace

Jul 31, 2024

The Game Fair returned to the grounds of Blenheim Palace, an architectural jewel and UNESCO World Heritage Site, for the first time in ten years this weekend. Record numbers attended as the sun shone and countryside interests across the board were shared and celebrated in equal measure.

Not only did the event organisers have to contend with the effects of the wet winter on the ground of the estate but a major worldwide summit was held at Blenheim Palace in the week leading up to the event and the main build had to be put on hold whilst the estate hosted the largest summit of political leaders since the 1940’s.

Rising to the challenge, the supersize Game Fair delivered in spades with 136,000 attending and over 700 exhibitors and organisations.

More than 20 MPs attended, and much was debated in the Carter Jonas Game Fair Theatre, from mental health issues to hard-hitting political matters of the day. In the ever-popular VIP Enclosure sponsored by Investec Wealth & Investment (UK), guests were treated to the wild game-inspired culinary delights of celebrity chef James Martin co-hosted by Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge plus favourite barman Merlin Griffiths.

James Gower, Event Director of The Game Fair said, “What a fantastic time we have had here at Blenheim this weekend. We were very happy to see the sunshine at this mega Game Fair where we celebrated all aspects of the rural community and demonstrated the importance of the great British countryside. From passionate debates to have-a-go activities, there has been something for everyone. It has been a privilege to return to Blenheim after ten years and to have the ongoing support from our sponsors, partners, exhibitors and visitors who enjoyed a fun-filled day out.”

Managing Director of Blenheim Estate, Roy Cox added, “For generations, Blenheim has been committed to preserving the natural environment while promoting sustainable land use and wildlife management. Our practices in gamekeeping, forestry, and farming are deeply intertwined with the themes of this fair. The Game Fair is a beacon of excellence in showcasing the very best of country life, fieldsports and rural pursuits. It provides a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and the celebration of our rural heritage. We have loved having The Game Fair here at Blenheim.”

The Game Fair returns to Ragley Hall for its 67th celebration of the countryside next year, 25 – 27 July 2025.
